Two very clever architects
indeed, have put a new
meaning to the word
re-cycling? Rather than
demolish 1950s-era
buildings and dump the
debris in landfills, Tom
Napier and Steve Cosper
are working on a system to
encourage the reuse and
recycling of materials
from the building
structures.
They are saving the
barbershop and the barber
chair where private Elvis
Presley sat while getting
the Army haircut of his
famous pompadour and
sideburns at Fort Chaffee
, Arkansas. Who could
forget the worldwide
recorded hair-cut in
history?
Napier may have something
even better to commemorate
the 20-year-old singer's
stint at Fort Chaffee. He
may be in possession of
the King's throne, so to
speak. Okay it’s only a
wooden toilet seat from a
latrine in an old barracks
that was in use at the
time Private Presley
passed through. Nobody
knows whether he actually
sat on it, it does make
for a great conversation
piece of Elvis
memorabilia.
Turning the 'Elvis'
toilet seat into wall art
certainly ties in with
Napier (an architect) and
Cosper (an environmental
engineer) approach to
their re-cycling endeavors
at both Fort Chaffee and
Fort Hood, Texas One has
to ask? How Elvis would
have re-acted to the
re-cycling of this
particular rock n roll
icon?
How
much would an avid Elvis fan be
willing to pay for this
collectible gem?
Like all Elvis collectible, will this
Elvis' 'toilet seat' wall art be the
future fodder for museum exhibitions?
