Newton Tribute to Elvis
The story goes that in his last engagement at the (Las Vegas)
Hilton in December 1976, Elvis kept a pad by his bed, and
wrote down his thoughts... then crumpled it up and threw it
away. The note was found by a cleaning lady which she sold at
auction several years later. "When I asked the contents of the
note" Newton says, "I was so moved that I purchased it." Wayne
Newton wrote a song from the contents of the Elvis Letter
