 In
1956 Elvis Presley tried to explain the secret of his success...
"I don’t know what it is… I just fell into it, really."
"My daddy and I were laughing about it the other day. He
looked at me and said, ‘What happened, E? The last thing I can remember
is I was working in a can factory and you were drivin’ a truck.. It
just caught us up... "
 By
the time Elvis Presley the rock-n-roll icon was transformed
into
Private Presley, a new generation of teenagers was breaking away from
the habits of their parents and discovering their own brand of music.
These baby boomers were armed money. They had no memory of the Depression.
They emerged as the first generation 'target' audience
that advertisers labelled consumers and Elvis became their first beneficiary.
 Elvis
Presley, The King of Rock n Roll the white boy with black soul who shook
mainstream America and the world with his unique brand of music...
and still is, the greatest icon there had ever been in the world
of entertainment.
To his fans Elvis personifies the rebel more so than such traditional
role models as
James Dean and Marlon Brando. He is the symbol of a period of
changing social attitudes and in a country where everyone is brought
up with the belief that maybe, one day, they could become the
President, he offers the far more attractive alternative that they
could become an Elvis.
Elvis not only was the American Dream come to life but he also lived that great
to the fullest extent possible. The poor white boy from Tupelo redefined exactly
what was meant by 'the big time.' During his lunch break in the summer
of 1953, a skinny 18-year-old kid parked his truck outside the Memphis Recording
Service. The manager,
Marion Keisker
looked at the nervous lad with long hair and sideburns with a guitar slung over his shoulder
and asked.....
"What kind of singer are you?"
"Awh, I
sing all kinds," he replied.
"Who do you sound like?"
"I don't sound like nobody."
"Hillbilly?"
"Yeah, I sing Hillbilly."
"Who do
you sound like in hillbilly?"
"I don't
sound like nobody. "
With that Elvis strode into the recording studio and cut two
tracks. THAT'S WHEN YOUR HEARTACHES BEGIN and MY HAPPINESS,
accompanying himself of guitar, paid the four-dollar fee and
left but was not forgotten. Marion liked what she heard
and insisted her partner
Sam Phillips listen to the tape. He was impressed.

Marie Presley (1968 -) "Lisa,"
said Elvis "is my only child and more precious to me than my life."
Lisa Marie Presley was born February 1, 1968, 9 months after her parents wed. Lisa
was daddy's little girl in many ways, not only was she adored, but she has inherited
his looks. Her resembles to her famous father is remarkable. Elvis gave her an idyllic
childhood in the fairy-tale
Graceland castle. He taught her to pray and answered all her prayers.
Anything she wanted was hers - a white mink coat, a golf-cart, and a slot
machine and once because she looked unhappy, Elvis gave her a diamond studded smiley
ring. For her 7th birthday, Elvis bought her the million-dollar plane, which he appropriately
named, Lisa Marie. No matter how precious Lisa was Elvis could not realise her dearest
wish. He could not save his marriage or change the course of destiny. Lisa was 9
years old that fateful day,
August 16 1977, when her idyllic world came to an end.
